Already known as one of the nation's premier printing centers, southeastern Wisconsin is evolving into “the Silicon Valley of Printing,” a nationwide hub for training, education and innovation.
Located near extensive timber and paper mill industries, commercial printers employ more than 15,000 people locally. They are supported by advanced diploma and certificate training programs at Waukesha County Technical College and Milwaukee Area Technical College. The region also is home to several organizations that set printing standards, including the National Council for Skill Standards in Graphic Communications and the professional development group of the National Association for Printing Leadership.
Both organizations are housed at the Harry V. Quadracci Printing Education and Technology Center, a 50,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art printing and graphics center located at Waukesha County Technical College. A new applied technology facility to be completed in 2007 will serve as a national center for product testing, applied research, technical training, industry seminars and national conferences.
