Transportation

Whatever your preferred mode of transportation, we've got it – interstates, international airports, Amtrak, commuter rail, buses, ferries and bike trails – plus the second-shortest commute time in the nation.

We're home to Midwest Airlines, which is consistently ranked the best domestic airline by various publications, including Travel & Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler.

General Mitchell International Airport is the primary commercial airport serving the area, which is served by 14 commercial carriers and offers non-stop or direct service to more than 90 different locations. The region is also 90 minutes away from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

Rail service in the area includes Amtrak, which connects the region with Chicago, the Twin Cities and points west. The region is also served by Metra, a commuter train that provides regular daily service between Kenosha and Chicago.

There's even a high-speed car ferry, the Lake Express, that crosses Lake Michigan to connect the region with southern Michigan, bypassing Chicago traffic.
